The Fewston Assemblage 2015-17

Gillian is delighted to be invited to train and support volunteers researching the Fewston Assemblage by the Washburn Heritage Centre.

The Fewston Assemblage is the collection of skeletons and artefacts excavated in Fewston churchyard during the construction of Washburn Heritage Centre in 2010. The skeletal remains are currently being analysed in partnership with the Universities of Durham and York to discover more about the lives of individuals in the Washburn Valley.

Gillian will train and support volunteers from Washburn investigating the social historical and geographical contexts for the 20 named individuals whose remains have been excavated. This research will contribute to new interpretation materials: namely a free-standing exhibition, a booklet, a short video and a series of 5 self-guided walk leaflets.

Museums "On The Job" Scheme 2014-15

Gillian is currently administering the Museum Development Yorkshire "On The Job" scheme of mutual CPD opportunities for the museum sector in Yorkshire and Humberside. These placements enable development of skills and experience in specific real projects undertaken by other museums such as setting up a shop, developing an exhibition, establishing a learning programme etc. and provide valuable experience for museums planning similar work in theĀ future.
