On 29 December 1170 four Norman knights murdered Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, in Canterbury Cathedral before fleeing north to Knaresborough Castle.
This talk examines the tensions between Henry II and his archbishop which led to the murder, the motives of the four knights, Reginald FitzUrse, Hugh de Morville, William de Tracy and Richard le Breton, their penances and subsequent careers.
