Granddaughter of Geoffrey Chaucer, Alice Chaucer successfully played the dangerous politics of the 1400s. Alice married three times and her beauty so captivated the duke of Burgundy at a Paris wedding, that he attempted to seduce her. Her third husband William de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk, was impeached and killed in 1450, and Alice was expelled from the Lancastrian court. This led to her alliance with Richard, duke of York and the marriage of her son to York’s daughter. This day school examines the career of this extraordinary Duchess.
