In 1396 Richard II gave York the status of a county in its own right but three years later was usurped from the throne by his cousin Henry IV. The city of York did not forgive Henry easily and in 1405 over 9,000 citizens of York ‘almost all the citizens of York capable of bearing arms’ followed Archbishop Scrope in rebellion.
This day school examines the causes of the revolt and the consequences for the Mayors and Corporation of York.
