Starts: Saturday 24 April 2027, 10am to 1pm BST
In 1016 Uchtred the Bold, earl of Northumbria, was assassinated in Yorkshire
by Thurbrand the Hold on the orders of King Cnut. This led to a bloody feud between their descendants, which did not end until the execution of Uchtred the Bold’s great-grandson Waltheof, the last Anglo-Saxon earl of Northumbria, in 1075.
This course examines the origins, causes and consequences of the feuding between these two families, their connections to the city of York, and the impact of the feud on Yorkshire and the North.
