1066 the Year of Three Battles: Fulford, Stamford & Hastings

Starts: Saturday 11 October 2025, 10am to 1pm GMT

The Battle of Hastings was not the only battle fought in 1066. At Hastings, on 14 October 1066, William the Conqueror defeated the last Anglo-Saxon king of England, Harold Godwinson, and then began his conquest of England. However, Godwinesson’s Anglo-Saxon armies had been weakened in the Yorkshire battles of Fulford and Stamford Bridge just weeks before Hastings. This day school examines the Yorkshire battles of Fulford and Stamford Bridge and how they contributed to William’s victory at Hastings.
