Starts: Saturday 10 October 2026, 10am to 1pm BST
In 1939 a rich ship-burial was discovered at Sutton Hoo which has been connected with early seventh century East Anglian kings, contemporary Scandinavian burial practices and the Old English poem Beowulf. However, this ship burial is just one part of a much larger Anglo-Saxon cemetery.
This course will examine the series of burials at Sutton Hoo and assess their significance for our understanding of Anglo-Saxon society.
